The Epson ColorWorks C6000 full-color label printers

The Epson ColorWorks C6000 series consists of four models. The CW-C6000 color label printer series has been on the market since early 2020. The introduction of this new printer series in the ColorWorks series was an immediate success. The Epson C6000 series complemented the existing ColorWorks models very well in various ways.

The Epson ColorWorks C6000 series is not a replacement for the existing Epson ColorWorks label printers. The Epson CW-C6000 and Epson CW-C6500 models have been launched to complement the existing models. Yet this does mean the end of the Epson GP-C831, but this model was never a real success.

The Epson CW-C6000 series contains color label printers suitable for printing high-quality labels and tickets in color. Bringing together color management and many other tools from the different Epson divisions has made this series a true everything.

The 4 versions of the Epson CW-C6000 series

The Epson ColorWorks CW-C6000 series consists of four printer models. The basic technology of these four color label printers is the same. For example, all four work with the same print head and with the same ink cartridges. Because the different printers of the Epson C6000 series are basically the same, it is possible to combine the different models. For example, within 1 company it is easy to work with several suitable models without major differences in working method and without stock of different types of ink cartridges.

But what are the four different versions of the Epson C6000 series and what are the differences. The four model types are the CW-C6000Ae, CW-C6500Ae, CW-C6000Pe and the CW-C6500Pe. So there is a difference in the model number (C6000 and C6500) and a difference in the letters at the end of the type number (Ae and Pe).

CW-C6000 vs CW-C6500

Within the CW-C6000 series, the first and perhaps biggest difference is visible between the CW-C6000 and CW-C6500.

The difference between the Epson ColorWorks C6000 and the C6500 lies in the width of the label printer and thus the maximum print width. The CW-C6000 versions have a maximum print width of 108 mm, so more than 4″ inches. The CW-C6500 versions have a print width of 211.9 mm, more than 8″ inches. The CW-C6500 printers are therefore about 2x as wide as the CW-C6000 printers.

The Epson CW-C6500 label printers can therefore print up to an A4 size label. This makes these printers suitable for printing larger product labels and A5 labels for large packaging for chemicals, such as IBC containers.

Ae vs PE

A less obvious difference, but unique to Epson, is between the “Ae” and the “Pe” models. The difference between these 2 versions is in the function after printing the labels. This immediately changes the field of application completely.

The “Ae” version stands for “Autocutter, europe” which means that this is a European model with an automatic paper knife. This version can cut the paper after printing 1 or more labels.

The “Pe” version stands for “Peeler, europe” which means that this is a European model with a peeler function. This feature of the Epson printers is unique to the color label printer market and is the first of its kind. A Peeler function shows the label without the backing paper, as it were.

The 4 standard printers of the Epson ColorWorks C6000 series

CW-C6000Ae

With a print width of over 10 cm and an automatic paper knife, the Epson CW-C6000Ae is an ideal label printer. The Epson CW-C6000Ae is also seen as the base model of the Epson C6000 series.

CW-C6000Pe

This Epson CW-C6000Pe combines a maximum print width of more than 10 cm with a peeler function. This version is ideal for packing departments and in a number of automatic labeling applications.

CW-C6500Ae

The Epson CW-C6500Ae manages to combine a maximum print width of more than 21 cm with a very efficient paper knife. This combination makes the CW-C6500Ae the most popular model in the Epson C6000 series.

CW-C6500Pe

A print width of over 21 cm and a peeler function, the Epson CW-C6500Pe has both. The Epson CW-C6500Pe is a unique color label printer that is used for very specific applications.

Specifications and functionalities

Because the four color label printers of the Epson ColorWorks C6000 series have the same technical basis, the four versions share many specifications. Of course there are also specifications that differ per version, such as the maximum print speed.
Many specifications and functionalities of the Epson ColorWorks C6000 series are not unique. However, the combination of the segment, the combination of specifications and easy deployability are unique in the market. Most features and specifications are shared by all models in the Epson ColorWorks C6000 series.

Print resolution

All 4 models in the Epson ColorWorks CW-C6000 series have a print resolution of 1200×1200 dpi. This resolution is also considered photo-realistic.

The print resolution does depend on the settings and materials used and affects the speed of the printer. The faster it prints, the lower the print resolution.

BS5609 - GHS

The Epson ColorWorks C6000 printers are BS5609 certified in combination with PE Matte media.

This makes these color label printers suitable for printing GHS/CLP labels. Printing labels in color is interesting for the chemical industry to deal flexibly with hazard symbols and changing legislation.

Adjustable sensor

As simple as it is effective, a movable sensor. The sensor detects the start and end of the printer media.

By making these movable, there is even more freedom in the design of labels and tickets. A movable sensor makes it easier to print, for example round labels.

Complete control

A 2.7 inch color screen, a complete menu and an intelligent web interface. Epson has taken the smartest tools from all divisions and put them together for the Epson C6000 series.

This gives complete control over the configuration and status of the label printers, both at the printer and remotely.

Service and reliability

The reliability of the Epson Colorworks printers has never been in question. This reliability is also very high with the Epson C6000 series.

In addition, Businesslabels customers benefit from the free* support. In this way Businesslabels helps its customers to minimize downtime. Support is always within reach for Businesslabels customers.

From Epson, the standard warranty is 1 year, during which the technician comes on site. The printer may be temporarily replaced by a loaner model. This can be expanded even further to several years via the Coverplus.

Advanced color management

Color printers print colors, that’s for sure. But printing professional color labels often also requires the “right colors”. Printing accurate colors is virtually impossible with standard printers, but not for the Epson C6000 printers!

The Epson C6000 has a solution for this by using ICM profiles. Measures the color gamut of the printer on a specific printer media.

By using an ICM profile it is better than ever possible to print the correct colors and color ratios. Where necessary, ask for the ICM profiles of Diamondlabels printer media.

Affordable

The Epson printers of the ColorWorks C6000 series are very attractive both in purchase and in use.

In the purchase, the Epson C6000 series is very affordable compared to the available alternatives. Do not purchase a machine such as a color label printer until step 1.

Ink consumed in €, a common question is “How many labels can I print with a cartridge”. Much more interesting is the cost price per label, which can be calculated very precisely by Businesslabels, please contact us.

Compared to a printer, the price per label must be recouped through the flexibility and speed of printing yourself.

Symeres is a company engaged in chemical solutions for drug development, or the pharmaceutical industry. By using high-quality labels in color in the right house style, we are building on better recognisability and thus brand awareness in the market. This fits in well with the strategy of the company, which has offices and collaborations in several countries. Naturally all aimed at further growth and based on flexibility. We are now working with full satisfaction with an Epson CW-C6000Ae label printers. The combination of the flexibility of the cutting blade, the high-quality label materials from Diamondlabels and the possibility to load a color profile has resulted in the most ideal solution.

Control and integration

For the development of the new CW-C6000 color label printer series, Epson has listened carefully to the wishes in the market. Based on market information, Epson has chosen to broaden the control of the CW-C6000 series. This satisfies various wishes from the market. For example, control options have been added that were not available with the earlier models such as the Epson TM-C3500 and Epson TM-C7500(G).

Microsoft Windows

Windows support is the standard for the label industry.

To replace the black and white label printers, Windows support for the color label printers from Epson is therefore a logical choice. The fact that almost all major software packages for automating label printing only run under Windows also plays a part in this.

Windows support is therefore available as standard for all models of the Epson Colorworks color label printer range.

macOS and iOS

macOS is hardly used industrially. At first sight, therefore, not important to support for thermal label printers and industrial application of color label printers.

However, color label printers are also widely used as a marketing tool. Marketing departments often use graphic software packages. In the graphics industry, the use of Apple products is therefore macOS (and iOS).

Epson has therefore decided to fully support the Epson CW-C6000 series on Mac as well.

Linux

Linux is known within the OS world as an open source operating system. Since it is open source, it is especially popular with programmers.

The freedom that Linux offers as an operating system means that this system is widely used for custom applications. Linux is therefore often seen in specific market applications in, for example, the flower and plant industry.

To seamlessly integrate the Epson CW-C6000 printers into Linux, Epson has developed a fully supported driver package.

SAP integration

SAP software, many companies companies work with it. Although it is mainly known as the software for large multinationals, there are also many small and medium-sized companies that automate their processes with it.

It is handy if the color label printers connect seamlessly to this. Where previously the choice was made to integrate the Epson ColorWorks models via a detour, the choice has now been made for full integration in SAP.

Epson has won a SAP Member Gold partner in the SAP “Printer Vendor Program” for this. As a result, the Epson CW-C6000 printers are fully supported by SAP business software.

Label automation

Various software packages are available for automated label printing solutions. Such software packages streamline the sometimes complex data flows to easy-to-apply label printing solutions.

The most well-known label printing solutions run on Nicelabel and Bartender. However, there are also many others such as CODESOFT and PrintNode.

The Epson CW-C6000 is supported by all major and virtually all smaller software packages. It is always wise to contact us for specific software and cloud integrations.

ESC/Label

Color label printers will eventually replace black and white printers. To seamlessly replace these mainly thermal label printers, Epson has introduced ESC/Label.

Epson’s ESC/Label is based on the most widely used language of thermal label printers. As a result, the Epson CW-C6000 printers are able to understand the thermal label printer language as it were. This enables quick and easy replacement of thermal label printers without modification.

This makes seamless replacement easy and you can work quietly on adding color to the labels.

"Since the Epson CW-C6000 printers have been available, we have seen a clear shift in printer sales. Where previously the Epson TM-C3500 fell short here and there and the Epson TM-C7500 printers were too expensive, Epson now has printers that can handle almost any application. That is why the Epson C6000 printers are a very welcome addition. Because the Epson C6000 series is offered in 4 models, the choice between the options is somewhat larger. It is therefore important to understand the advantages and disadvantages of different options. In this way, it can be determined which model best suits the user."

Which version

Which version fits best in which situation is perhaps the most difficult question to answer. For 90% of the applications, the choice is mainly based on the label format, after which the choice is made for printers with an automatic cutting knife. In addition, the Epson CW-C6500Ae is sometimes deliberately chosen to work as universally as possible.

What do you need to know to make the right choice?

Epson CW-C6000 v.s. Epson CW-C6500

The advantage of the CW-C6500 compared to the CW-C6000 is of course the maximum label width.

The maximum print width of 211.9 mm and a maximum paper width of 215.9 mm offer an enormous range of possibilities. In addition, just like the CW-C6000, the CW-C6500 can also work with a paper width of 25.4 mm, which also enables very small labels to be printed.

In terms of label format, the Epson CW-C6500 has the largest range and is therefore the most universally applicable.

If the Epson CW-C6500 can be wider than the CW-C6000 and is otherwise the same, why choose the Epson CW-C6000?

The advantage of the CW-C6000 over the CW-C6500 is not only the purchase price. Another important difference is the maximum outer diameter of the label rolls. Due to the weight of a label roll, a maximum outer diameter of 152 mm has been chosen for the wider CW-C6500, 203 mm for the CW-C6000.

This means that the CW-C6000 not only has more labels on a roll and therefore fewer roll changes. The CW-C6000 is therefore more in line with the market.

All benefits

Need the advantages of the CW-C6500 in label sizes but still be able to work with large rolls. It sounds like a utopia.

Nevertheless, it is possible to take advantage of the advantages of the CW-C6500 without suffering from the disadvantages of a smaller roll diameter. To achieve this, an external unwinder can be used.

By using an unwinder, a larger roll diameter can be used, which increases the number of available label rolls and makes the printer optimally usable.

“As a specialist supplier of NFC tags, we would like to be able to supply our customers with small runs of printed waterproof NFC stickers with a very fast delivery time. For this, we have had special plastic NFC stickers developed in collaboration with one of our producers. During the development process we wanted to test this on the Epson CW6500. Businesslabels was kind enough to invite us as soon as they had the printer at home, to test the printer with these labels together. Their expertise and advice helped us make this project a success. In addition to this special application, we also use this printer daily for product labels, address labels, etc. We are very satisfied with the printer!”

The benefits of the peeler function (Pe)

What is a peeler?

A peeler function on a label printer is made to indicate the labels, as it were. In English they also call it a “peel and present functionality”.

The peeler function of the Epson CW-C6000 series offers the label without backing paper. The backing paper, which contains the labels, is discharged downwards and the label itself comes out of the printer. Because the label is still attached to a few millimeters of backing paper, it will stick, but it can still be picked up very easily.

While offering a printed label, a sensor causes the printer to go into a pause mode. As soon as the printed label has been removed, the printer will print the next label and thus indicate again as long as there are still labels to print.

When to use

A peeler function efficiently indicates the labels to be printed. These can therefore be purchased and used very easily 1 by 1.

This principle is therefore very efficient in production and packaging companies that pack manually. For example, when assembling assortment boxes.

By giving the printer an order for an x number of labels, you can pack the goods very efficiently and provide the corresponding label 1 by 1. Working with a peeler is up to 80% more efficient compared to working from a label roll.

Peeler models are also used in automatic labeling solutions.

Nadelen

In addition to the many advantages that a peeler function can offer, there are also disadvantages.

When choosing a CW-C6000Pe or CW-C6500Pe, it is often the case that a printer must be purchased per workstation. After all, the printer is located where the label is placed. As a result, the investment is initially high in a number of cases, but the efficiency does ensure a high ROI.

Another drawback is the lack of the cutting blade. This makes the printer less suitable for printing a series of labels that have to be placed at a different location.

The choice for the peeler function is a factory option and cannot be changed afterwards.

The benefits of an AutoCutter (Ae)

The automatic cutter of the Ae models in the Epson CW-C6000 series can be used for flexible label formats.

This means that the printer can determine the label size lengthwise by cutting it to the desired length. In this case, a so-called endless label roll is used.

In this way only the width of the labels is fixed, furthermore each label can have a different format by varying the length.

The automatic cutter can also be useful in automated applications and with many changing print jobs.

For example, the cutting blade can be used to cut at the end of each print job in order to easily separate the labels per product. The printer can also be set to cut after a preset number of labels.

In this way, the labels can always be kept together in the right sets and they can easily be taken to their destination.

Purchase price

PurchaseThe last advantage is the financial advantage. The Ae models of the Epson CW-C6000 series are a lot cheaper than the Epson Pe models of the CW-C6000 series.

The Epson CW-C6000Ae and Epson CW-C6500Ae are the most popular models due to the financial advantage. After all, they are not only cheaper but also more universally applicable.

Some for specific applications where a peeler function offers real added value, a more expensive Pe version will be chosen.

"A different material for every application and a different control for every company. Printing labels sometimes seems very easy, but there is more to think about than just what do you want to print. Think of the appearance and what properties should the label have. Does the budget have to be or does the label have to be resistant to chemicals? But also things like how are you going to print the labels? From an ERP system, PDF or is an automated label printing program required? These are all difficult questions, luckily Businesslabels is ready to answer that question. help with appropriate advice and support, both in the preliminary phase and during use."

Common Applications

Labels are printed for numerous applications, both black and white labels and color labels. All these labels can be divided into a number of segments, but all share a few characteristic properties. Every label shares a purpose of informing. The information can be divided into mandatory information (legal obligations), product information, and design information (logo, corporate identity, “feeling”).

There are endless uses for labels. There are functional labels such as address labels, these only contain information that must be functional. For example, the barcode must be scannable and text readable. The function of color is often limited, but certainly present. For example, color can help with quick visual identification. In addition, there are “design” labels such as product labels. Such labels benefit from color in order to get a look. Many applications of color labels fall somewhere between these 2 categories because mandatory and necessary information is combined with design and house style.
