Can I replace spare parts on my Epson ColorWorks printer myself?
No, in principle the parts of Epson ColorWorks printers cannot be replaced by the user, with the exception of a few easily replaceable parts such as the ink cartridges and the maintenance box. For the CW-C4000 model, you can also replace the auto-cutter yourself.
All other repairs or replacements must be carried out by a trained service engineer with the appropriate tools and software.
The Peeler function is not working properly, how do I fix this?
If the Peeler is not dispensing labels correctly, follow these steps:
- Clean the peeler edge and rollers with a damp cloth or alcohol to remove adhesive residue.
- Check whether the material is suitable for use with a Peeler (material that is too thin can cause problems).
- Check whether the media is loaded correctly.
My prints have smudges or are smeared. How do I prevent this?
Smeared prints can occur when printing outside the label area or when using incorrect materials. Check the following:
- Make sure you are not printing too far outside the label area.
- Use only high-quality, suitable inkjet label material that absorbs sufficiently.
- Make sure the label roll is free from dust and dirt.
- Print with less ink intensity (lower resolution or less colour coverage).
- Check that the media definitions are correctly configured for the media coating type.
What should I do if my printer does not detect the label material?
Follow these steps if labels are not detected correctly:
- Check that the material is loaded correctly (position of the roll and the material through the printer).
- Check that the loaded media and its associated detection are configured correctly on the printer itself.
- Perform an automatic media calibration.
- Check that the printer driver is configured correctly (GAP or Blackmark).
- If necessary, clean the sensors (dust or label residue can interfere with detection).
My printer displays "Service Required". What does this mean and what should I do?
"Service Required" is a notification indicating an internal error (hardware fault). You can try the following:
- Turn off the printer, wait a few minutes, and restart it.
- Update the printer to the most recent firmware version.
- Does the error message persist? Then please contact our technical support department.
What should I do if my printer produces faint prints or streaks?
Faint prints or streaks are usually caused by clogged or partially clogged ink channels (nozzles). Solutions:
- Run a nozzle check via the printer software.
- Then perform a cleaning cycle if necessary (1–3 times).
- Make sure the correct media type settings (matte or glossy) are selected in the driver.
How do I resolve a "Paper Jam" in my Epson ColorWorks printer?
If a paper jam occurs, follow the steps below:
- Turn off the printer and carefully open the printer cover.
- Gently remove any visible debris or jammed labels.
- Check that the sensors are clean and, if necessary, clean them with a dry cloth or alcohol.
- Reload the label media and perform a short calibration.
Is the problem still occurring? Please contact our support department.
What does the "Media Form Error" message mean and how do I resolve it?
The Media Form Error message appears when the sensors are incorrectly configured relative to the loaded media.
Check and adjust the settings via the printer driver and the printer itself so that they match the loaded media. For Epson models starting with TM-C, this must be done before loading the media (without any print jobs present); for CW-C models, this can be done without print jobs present during pause mode:
- Gap: Labels with gaps between them (die-cut labels)
- Blackmark: Labels with a black detection mark on the back
- Continuous: Continuous labels without gaps or markings
Then, if necessary, perform a quick calibration via the printer itself.
My printer displays the message "Media Size Error". How do I resolve this?
This message indicates that the format set in the printer driver does not match the loaded label media. Resolve it by:
- Making the label format in the printer driver exactly equal to the actually loaded label. Measure the format manually if necessary.
- Optionally performing a short media calibration via the printer button or software.
- When printing borderless, it may sometimes be necessary on certain Epson ColorWorks models to disable this error message by default — in that case, please contact our support department for advice.
